★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Viaggio in treno storico, con personale preparato e gentile. Ci ha portato a Roccaraso da Sulmona e ritorno, facendo tappa a Palena. Molto suggestivo. Accompagnati da un'abbondante nevicata.
 Journey by historic train, with trained and kind staff. He took us to Roccaraso from Sulmona and back, stopping in Palena. Very suggestive. Accompanied by a heavy snowfall.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Beech woods if great age and beauty. The walk is short even if you use the loop trails on either side. Then one arrives at the simple hermitage on the edge of a stunning agricultural slope land.

It is the old train station of Palena, hidden up on the planes nestled in the mountains of Abruzzo.
There's a small bar with the same kind smiling man serving there, since all the years I can remember.
Its a quiet place surrounded by nature. If you want to escape from the noise of cities and tourist traps and just be immersed in nature, go here.
Expect only the wonderful little bar where you can also eat fantastic simple genuine plates of pasta, have a beer or ice-cream sitting on the plastic chairs outdoors and just contemplate the surroundings :-)
I might be biased, I love Abruzzo in all its oddities forms and corners.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Excellent food stalls with a nice variety of Abruzzo gastronomy when we arrived on the transiberiana. Local music belted out by three musicians. Had there been a few more tables in the shade it would have been a five star experience.
