Ha una caratteristica unica in Italia perché agli inizi del secolo scorso era dotata di due rami ferroviari laterali al binario di scorrimento. Questi due binari senza sfondo erano di "sicurezza". Essendo la stazione da cui inizia la salita per la linea montana e quindi molto ripida, uno era usato per fare prendere la "rincorsa" al treno che doveva salire. L'altra ancora più particolare era usata come binario di emergenza per i treni che scendendo da una notevole pendenza avevano problemi di frenata e quindi, invece di schiantarsi alla stazione di Pistoia, entravano su questo binario morto che aveva una salita ripida tramite un ponte come potete vedere dalle foto. Il bello/brutto era che il ponte è spezzato e per almeno un paio di volte il treno o una parte di esso ha sfondato gli sbarramenti ed è caduto giù. Pensate che i macchinisti avevano in dotazione una sorta di materasso nel quale si avvolgevano e si gettavano fuori dal treno nel caso in cui non si fosse fermato. So' che può sembrare incredibile ma queste informazioni le ho avute da una guida del volontariato delle F.S. The Valdibrana station is no longer in use but can be visited externally. It has a unique feature in Italy because at the beginning of the last century it was equipped with two railway branches lateral to the running track. These two tracks without a background were "safety". Being the station from which the ascent to the mountain line begins and therefore very steep, one was used to make the train to take the "run-up". The other even more particular one was used as an emergency track for trains that, coming down from a considerable slope, had braking problems and therefore, instead of crashing at the Pistoia station, they entered this dead track which had a steep climb through a bridge like you can see from the photos. The good / bad was that the bridge is broken and for at least a couple of times the train or part of it broke through the barriers and fell off. Just think that the train drivers were equipped with a sort of mattress in which they rolled up and threw themselves off the train in case it did not stop. I know it may sound unbelievable but this information I got from a volunteer guide of the F.S.
