Die Kirche ist dem heiligen Valentin von Rätien, Bischof von Passau und Wanderprediger in Meran, geweiht. Er lebte circa 470 bis 475 als Einsiedler auf der Zenoburg, wo er verstarb und auch bestattet wurde.
Die Kirche St. Valentin in Obermais ist kunsthistorisch wenig bedeutsam, wegen ihrer besonders schönen Lage aber ausergewöhnlich als Hochzeitskirche beliebt.
Below Schloss Rametz and not far from Trauttmansdorff Castle is the little church of St. Valentin. The church is dedicated to St. Valentine of Rhaetia, Bishop of Passau and itinerant preacher in Merano. He lived about 470-475 as a hermit on the Zenoburg, where he died and was also buried.
The church of St. Valentine in Obermais is of little significance in art history, but due to its particularly beautiful location it is exceptionally popular as a wedding church.
