★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Un luogo da visitare assolutamente, molto suggestivo per la sua storia: nell'agosto 1944, pochi giorni dopo la strage di Sant’Anna di Stazzema, una sanguinosa operazione militare sui prati del Monte Faudo falcidiò 13 contadini inermi. Poi i soldati proseguirono scendendo verso la valle Argentina dal passo di Vèna, uccisero due contadini di Montalto incontrati sul sentiero. Raggiunto il Santuario di Nostra Signora dell’Acquasanta radunarono gli orfani ospitati presso il ricovero insieme a due sacerdoti. Alla minaccia di uccidere tutti i bambini si opposero fermamente i due religiosi che vennero prima picchiati selvaggiamente e poi finiti a colpi d’arma da fuoco. I bambini chiusi nel Santuario assistettero all’eccidio. I militari raggiunsero infine il paese di Montalto dove uccisero altri tre civili e rientrarono verso Taggia Questi episodi sono ormai ampiamente documentati e consegnati alla storia nella verità dei fatti a fronte dei molteplici tentativi di stravolgimento della realtà. Per completare l'espererienza è dunque utile proseguire verso il museo della resistenza di Carpasio, a mezz'ora di auto dal santuario. (controllare orari apertura)
A place to visit absolutely, very suggestive for its history: in August 1944, a few days after the massacre of Sant’Anna di Stazzema, a bloody military operation on the meadows of Monte Faudo killed 13 unarmed peasants. Then the soldiers continued descending towards the Argentina valley from the Vèna pass, they killed two Montalto peasants they met on the path. When they reached the Shrine of Our Lady of Acquasanta, they gathered the orphans housed in the shelter together with two priests. The two monks were firmly opposed to the threat of killing all the children and were first savagely beaten and then shot and killed. The children locked in the sanctuary witnessed the massacre. The soldiers finally reached the town of Montalto where they killed three other civilians and returned to Taggia. These episodes are now widely documented and consigned to history in the truth of the facts in the face of multiple attempts to distort reality. To complete the experience it is therefore useful to continue towards the museum of the resistance of Carpasio, half an hour by car from the sanctuary. (check opening times)
