★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Sulle pendici a Sud-Est della città di Enna sorge il Santuario del SS. Crocifisso di Papardura. Il nome della località “PAPARDURA” dà luogo a diverse interpretazioni:
lo storico Littara di Noto fa derivare il nome dalle acque che nella località sono abbondanti, pertanto Papardura significa “ località dalle acque perenni e cospicue”.
Altra spiegazione verosimile è nell’origine persiana della parola, “Papar-dura” è la traduzione di acqua sorgente e “dura” che è sinonimo di roccia. Gli arabi la chiamarono così per indicare la roccia dell’acqua sgorgante.
Se ti trovi da queste parti non puoi non visitarlo!!!
On the south-east slopes of the city of Enna stands the Sanctuary of the SS. Crucifix of Papardura. The name of the place "PAPARDURA" gives rise to different interpretations:
the historian Littara di Noto derives the name from the waters that are abundant in the locality, therefore Papardura means "locality with perennial and conspicuous waters".
Another likely explanation is in the Persian origin of the word, "Papar-dura" is the translation of spring water and "hard" which is synonymous with rock. The Arabs called it this to indicate the rock of the gushing water.
If you are in these parts you cannot miss it !!!

Found closed. The sign at the entrance says it's open daily, but locals say it only opens on Fridays
