Piero Petrisano Promotore Finanziario on Google ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Il bellissimo complesso Chiesa/Convento detto “ della Riforma” deve il suo nome al fatto che fu proprietà dei frati Riformati dal 1628 fino al 1868 ai quali fu donato dal Barone Antonino Firrao, che lo ricostruì. Egli volle porre sull’ altare un pregiato crocefisso, opera del frate Umile da Petralia, che è ritenuto miracoloso dai fedeli. Ma la sua storia è molto più antica. Le sue origini risalgono all’anno 863, quando fu fondato, come monastero fuori le mura dalle Benedettine. Fu distrutto dal disastroso terremoto del 1.184 e riedificato da Federico II di Svevia, che lo cedette ai frati Francescani nel 1.224. Nel 1276 fu acquistato dalle Clarisse che, trasferitesi in Città, nel 1.412 lo fittarono ai frati Osservanti, che lo abbandonarono nel 1.436. Suguirono 170 anni di abbandono e divenne un rudere, quando fu acquistato dal Firrao. Il crocefisso si salvò miracolosamente dagli incendi in seguito ai bombardamenti del 1.943 e splende sull’ altare maggiore. L’ interno della chiesa è a 3 navate, rette da colonne da cui partono archi a tutto sesto, squadrati ed intagliati, interamente realizzati in blocchi di tufo locale. Molto bella. Da non perdere.
