Venendo ai tempi nostri le prime notizie della chiesa risalgono al 1078 e già nel XV secolo si cita il fenomeno delle formiche alate che qui venivano a frotte a morire nel mese di settembre, evento che perdura tuttora.Il sentimento popolare è che vengano qui a morire in omaggio alla Beata Vergine, tesi non condivisa dalla gerarchia ecclesiastica.Il mistero continua. Il Santuario che vediamo oggi la completa ricostruzione operata nel 1957 dell'edificio andato distrutto nel corso della Seconda Guerra Mondiale. The summit of the Monte delle Formiche was already a sacred place for the ancient populations of these lands and the manifestations of nature such as the sun, the moon and the stars were venerated, subsequently pagan deities were worshiped. The Sanctuary that we see today is the complete reconstruction carried out in 1957 of the building which was destroyed during the Second World War.

La chiesa è molto bella, ben tenuta, si può fare una lunga passeggiata attorno. In quel giorno io e la mia fidanzata non eravamo adeguatamente vestiti, ma consiglio anche solo per fare una piccola gita fuori porta per chi abita a Bologna e dintorni. It is one of the most beautiful places from which you can admire the whole Apennines. Your strategic location makes it a magical place to visit. The church is very nice, well maintained, you can take a long walk around it. On that day my girlfriend and I weren't properly dressed, but I recommend even just to take a little trip out of town for those who live in Bologna and its surroundings.

Completamente immerso nella natura il santuario è molto curato e il suo interno è veramente grazioso. Visita consigliata da fare in una giornata di sole in modo da godersi anche tutti il parco esterno. Very nice place to visit on a beautiful hill from which you can admire an enchanting panorama. Completely immersed in nature, the sanctuary is well cared for and its interior is truly graceful. Recommended visit to be done on a sunny day in order to enjoy the outdoor park as well.
