Nota a partire dal 650 dalla Conventio, con cui si tento' di pacificare il vescovo aretino Servando e quello senese Mauro nella loro contesa per il controllo di alcune pievi ed edifici religiosi(e loro introiti...),tra cui anche questa pieve. L'accordo però non andò bene: fu proprio qui che nel 711(stando a quel che disse il primicerio aretino Gerardo nel XI sec )gli uomini del vescovo aretino Luperziano uccisero il gastaldo senese Godiperto,scatenando una sommosa dei senesi. La sentenza ("giudicato")del 714 di Ambrosio,maggiordomo del re LIutprando,fu però favorevole a Luperziano,ai danni del vescovo senese Adeodato,e anche qui è ricordata la pieve di Pacina. Anche re Liutprando stesso,nel 715 confermo' con un suo precetto la sentenza,causando l'opposizione di Adeodato. Questo diede vita a nuove lunghe indagini,docunentato dal testimoniale del 715 ,con cui il messo regio Gunteramo interroga i sacerdoti e i pievani di un gran numero di chiese contese ,tra cui ancora una volta Pacina. La pieve quindi risulta molto antica,ben più antica della veste romanica che oggi possiamo osservare,che comunque rimanda alla prima fase del romanico:un singolare campanile circolare in origine separato dall edificio,pianta non troppo allungata,absidi composte da tutta una serie di materiali misti ,archetti nella parete esterna della navata centrale...). Oggi delle tre absidi ne restano solo due,e anche la pianta risulta diversa,allungata rispetto all'origine, perché la facciata fu spostata verso il campanile . Inoltre,aggiungerei che la recente intonacatura della facciata e' forse stata una scelta un po'infelice...... Fino ad ora ho trovato chiusa ,ma non dispero. very old parish church, unique for its architecture, and even the scene of an ancient and historical crime. Furthermore, I would add that the recent plastering of the facade was perhaps a somewhat unfortunate choice ... Until now I have found it closed, but I do not despair.
