Nel IX secolo, Brigida, una donna di nobili origini che proveniva dall’Irlanda (in antico chiamata Scotia), era giunta in Italia in aiuto al fratello Andrea (arcidiacono di Fiesole) molto malato, al cui fianco rimase fino alla morte. Prima della morte il fratello desiderò che Brigida restasse vicina al luogo della sua sepoltura. La donna assecondò il volere del fratello e, secondo la tradizione, si ritirò in eremitaggio nel nostro paese, presso una grotta, dove per molti anni si dedicò alla preghiera cibandosi di frutti di bosco, radici ed erbe. Si spense nell’anno 885 all’età di 103 anni e pare che il suo corpo sia stato sepolto al di sopra della grotta dove questa aveva vissuto.
ANEDDOTO
Il 30 agosto i tedeschi fecero saltare alcune case in Doccio e in via Piana. Il 31 agosto ci fu una controffensiva da parte degli anglo-americani: molte cannonate vennero lanciate verso via Piana e la Chiesa, una di queste colpì a morte Attilio Ciani, che si era riparato dai bombardamenti nella grotta assieme alla figlia. Pare che l'uomo venne visto perché, uscito di notte a controllare la situazione, si era acceso una sigaretta.

In the ninth century, Bridget, a woman of noble origins who came from Ireland (formerly called Scotia), had come to Italy to help her very ill brother Andrea (archdeacon of Fiesole), by whose side she remained until his death. Before her death, her brother wished that Bridget would stay close to her burial site. The woman complied with her brother's will and, according to tradition, retired to a hermitage in our country, in a cave, where for many years she devoted herself to prayer, eating berries, roots and herbs. He died in the year 885 at the age of 103 and it seems that his body was buried above the cave where he had lived.
ANECDOTE
On 30 August the Germans blew up some houses in Doccio and in Via Piana. On 31 August there was a counter-offensive by the Anglo-Americans: many cannon shots were launched towards Via Piana and the Church, one of which killed Attilio Ciani, who had sheltered from the bombing in the cave with his daughter. It seems that the man was seen because, having gone out at night to check the situation, he had lit a cigarette
