From this church, on December 13, 1545, a solemn procession began the Council of Trent, which was a response to the need for reform of the Church in connection with the Reformation, which was developing from 1517.

In 1525 at the behest of Antonio a Prato, a nobleman from Trentino, the church was built not far from his home (former post office building). The liturgical direction was first entrusted to the Poor Clares (Rule of Santa Chiara) and then, after the suppression in the 18th century, to the Filipino fathers (San Filippo Neri). The current façade, in Baroque style, has decorations with festoons, scrolls, drapes and cherubs. In the center appears the sculptural relief with the Holy Trinity: Father (right), Son (left) and Holy Spirit (in the center). Inside, the main altarpiece by Martin Teofilo Polacco (seventeenth century) portrays the Trinity and the Majesty above a group of saints: Girolamo di Stridone (at his feet you can see the lion that according to legend would have healed from the wound), Carlo Borromeo (champion against Protestant heresies), Agostino d'Ippona (author of the famous work "De Trinitate"), Monica di Tagaste (mother of Agostino) and Giuliana di Nicomedia (martyr of the 4th century). The other altarpieces (Madonna di Fatima and Sacro Cuore) are the work of E. Parolini (1943) while the finishing of the altars, which come from the side apses of the Cathedral of Trento, are the work of Andrea Filippini. In the fire of the side altar (on the right), a contracted decoration shows two visions of the Cathedral with both bell towers built. The painting on the counter-facade above the entrance is by Carlo Gaudenzio Mignocchi (1716) and portrays the Blessed Virgin and San Nicola da Tolentino. In the work of Giovanni Bonazza "The reception of the cardinals" in the post office building, on the street facing the Church, the facade of the Church of SS. Trinity as it had to appear at the time of the council, and therefore before the Baroque restoration, that is, in masonry and without plaster, including the broken tympanum. The Church of Santa Trinità is located almost behind the central post office in Trento, therefore in the historic center. It was erected in 1525.
