★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Non si hanno notizie certe della fondazione della Chiesa di San Secondo, tuttavia gli storici sono concordi nell'indicare il XII Secolo quale data di costruzione dell'edificio; ma potrebbe persino essere databile al Secolo precedente. Quel che è sicuro è che si tratta di uno degli edifici religiosi architettonicamente più insigni del romanico monferrino.
Non solo l'alternanza cromatica fra mattoni e pietra arenaria è rispettata, ma anche le decorazioni scultoree rendono la chiesa uno degli esempi più plastici dell'arte medievale piemontese. In particolare, i capitelli delle colonne che dividono la navata centrale da quelle laterali sono un trionfo di figure antropomorfe e zoomorfe dal fascino arcano.
Gli archi a sesto acuto della navata principale sono un'aggiunta posteriore in stile gotico, ma questa nulla toglie all'abbagliante bellezza della chiesa. La visita è caldamente consigliata.
There is no certain information about the foundation of the Church of San Secondo, however historians agree in indicating the XII century as the date of construction of the building; but it could even be dated to the previous century. What is sure is that it is one of the most architecturally famous religious buildings of the Monferrato Romanesque.
Not only is the chromatic alternation between brick and sandstone respected, but also the sculptural decorations make the church one of the most plastic examples of Piedmontese medieval art. In particular, the capitals of the columns that divide the central nave from the lateral ones are a triumph of anthropomorphic and zoomorphic figures with an arcane charm.
The pointed arches of the main nave are a Gothic addition to the rear, but this does not detract from the dazzling beauty of the church. The visit is highly recommended.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Spettacolare esempio di chiesa romanica, estremamente ben tenuta . All’esterno si può godere di un paesaggio incantevole, sullo sfondo il paese ed il castello di Cortazzone. Oltre a questa chiesa è presente nei dintorni un altra chiesa romanica , quella dedicata a San Giorgio.
Spectacular example of a Romanesque church, extremely well maintained. Outside you can enjoy an enchanting landscape, in the background the town and the castle of Cortazzone. In addition to this church, there is another Romanesque church nearby, the one dedicated to San Giorgio.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Chiesa Romanica molto carina e ben mantenuta con capitelli scolpiti situata su un altura dove si gode di un ottima panoramica sulle colline circostanti. Nel caso fosse chiusa ci sono riferimenti (indirizzi e numeri di telefono) per recuperare le chiavi e poterla visitare.
Very pretty and well maintained Romanesque church with sculpted capitals located on a hill where you can enjoy an excellent view of the surrounding hills. If it is closed there are references (addresses and telephone numbers) to retrieve the keys and be able to visit it.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Si arriva comodamente in auto fino allo spiazzo antistante la chiesa. Presente una fontanella e un tavolo con panche dove poter eventualmente mangiare al sacco. Ho visitato la chiesa sabato 26 febbraio ed era aperta. In caso fosse chiusa sul cartello descrittivo trovate gli indirizzi per recuperare le chiavi.La chiesa è tenuta benissimo sia internamente che all'esterno.Pregevole esempio di architettura sacra romanica. Organizzate la gita in modo da visitare le vicine chiese di San Martino e San Giorgio (all'interno dei cimiteri di Montafia e della frazione di Bagnasco di Montafia)
You can arrive comfortably by car up to the clearing in front of the church. Present a fountain and a table with benches where you can possibly eat packed. I visited the church on Saturday 26th February and it was open. If it is closed on the descriptive sign you will find the addresses to retrieve the keys.The church is very well kept both internally and externally. A fine example of Romanesque sacred architecture. Organize the trip to visit the nearby churches of San Martino and San Giorgio (inside the cemeteries of Montafia and the hamlet of Bagnasco di Montafia)
