★ ★ ★ ★ ★ LA STORIA: Ubicato nel centro antico di Napoli, il monastero di Santa Maria di Gerusalemme con l’annessa chiesa del Presepe divenne nel 1539 sede di un gruppo di cappuccine, detto delle "Trentatrè", dal numero delle consorelle ospitate. Le suore appartenevano ad un ordine di recente creazione, quello delle francescane del Terz’Ordine, voluto da San Gaetano e di cui fu fondatrice Maria Longo, alla quale si deve anche la costruzione dell’Ospedale degli Incurabili. Nel 1585, abbattuta l’originaria chiesa del Presepe durante la costruzione del chiostro, venne eretta una seconda chiesa, demolita nel 1600 per far posto a quella attuale. L’interno dell’edificio, estremamente semplice, conserva una decorazione settecentesca a stucchi. Sull’altare maggiore è posta una tavola del XVI secolo raffigurante la Presentazione di Gesù al Tempio inquadrata in una cona lignea di gusto tardo-barocco. Della stessa epoca la Presentazione al Tempio di Maria, collocata in alto sul timpano. Nell’ingresso del monastero è visibile un ciclo di affreschi opera di Andrea Malinconico (1770).
HISTORY: Located in the ancient center of Naples, the monastery of Santa Maria di Gerusalemme with the adjoining church of the Crib became the seat of a group of Capuchins in 1539, called the "Thirty-three", by the number of sisters hosted. The nuns belonged to a newly created order, that of the Franciscans of the Third Order, wanted by San Gaetano and of which Maria Longo was the founder, to whom the construction of the Incurables Hospital was also due. In 1585, the original church of the Crib was demolished during the construction of the cloister, a second church was erected, demolished in 1600 to make way for the current one. The interior of the building, extremely simple, retains an eighteenth-century stucco decoration. On the main altar there is a 16th century panel depicting the Presentation of Jesus in the Temple framed in a late Baroque wooden cone. From the same period, the Presentation in the Temple of Mary, located high on the tympanum. In the entrance of the monastery you can see a cycle of frescoes by Andrea Malinconico (1770).
