★ ★ ★ ★ ★ La Chiesa di Santa Maria in Gradi fu costruita nell’ultimo decennio del Cinquecento per volere dei monaci camaldolesi che in questo punto avevano il loro “presidio” aretino già da metà XI secolo. La costruzuine della terminò nel 1611 dopo venti anni di lavori. Lo stile tardo cinquecentesco venne progettato dall’architetto fiorentino Bartolomeo Ammannati che morì prima che venne costruita. Molto bella la cripta alla quale si accede grazie a una stretta scala.
The Church of Santa Maria in Gradi was built in the last decade of the sixteenth century at the behest of the Camaldolese monks who at this point had their Aretine "garrison" already from the middle of the XI century. The construction of the building ended in 1611 after twenty years of work. The late sixteenth century style was designed by the Florentine architect Bartolomeo Ammannati who died before it was built. The crypt which is accessed by a narrow staircase is very beautiful.
