★ ★ ★ ★ ★ La Cattedrale di S.Maria Achiropita è nel cuore del centro storico di Rossano, sotto la Torre dell' orologio. Eretta nel XI secolo, è una chiesa bellissima con l'interno diviso in tre navate, e con le nicchie laterali riccamente intarsiate in marmi policromi. Molto decorate tutte le pareti e le colonne e il soffitto.
Nella navata principale, sulla sinistra un altare è dedicato all' immagine f
dellla Madonna Achiropita (significa non dipinta da mano umana), molto venerata fai fedeli.
Nell'archidiocesi, attaccata alla Basilica, è conservato il CODEX PURPUREUS, un prezioso evangelario miniato del VI sec. riccamente illustrato, opera di monaci bizantini, in lingua greca. È considerato uno dei più antichi, importanti e preziosi manoscritti ecclesiastici ed è un po' il simbolo di Rossano.

The Cathedral of Santa Maria Achiropita is in the heart of the historic center of Rossano, under the Clock Tower. Built in the 11th century, it is a beautiful church with the interior divided into three naves, and with the side niches richly inlaid with polychrome marble. Very decorated all the walls and columns and the ceiling.
In the main nave, on the left, an altar is dedicated to the image f
of the Madonna Achiropita (means not painted by human hand), very revered you do faithful.
In the archdiocese, attached to the Basilica, the CODEX PURPUREUS is preserved, a precious illuminated evangelary from the sixth century. richly illustrated, by Byzantine monks, in Greek. It is considered one of the oldest, most important and precious ecclesiastical manuscripts and is somewhat the symbol of Rossano.
