The small castle dominating over Subiaco is a beauty. You get great views from the top.
Once a private palace/residence with beautifully frescoed ceiling and walls and painted doors and windows (you may still see some beautifully preserved), today stands with no maintenance, no cleaning, with humidity -- in a miserable state. Even the terracotta floors are not cleaned after painting the walls. The floors are full of paint and dirt. Even the description of each hall is pasted on cheap crude paste-board. The Rocca shows a great example of of indifference. What a pity!
You can reach Subiaco by car or train from Rome. There is also regular bus services. Ample parking around the Rocca.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Beautiful Mansion (didn't look like a castle and seemed too small to be a palace) on the highest mountain in town. Very steep roads, not for the faint of heart if you drive standard.
