Suites in an old vaulted yet stylish building.
The menu contains typical Tuscan dishes and a good selection of pizza’s and calzoni.
We started sharing a “Il Cassero”; a selection of antipasti and crostini. Because there were “one of a kind” bites: we got quickly in discussion about the many flavours and which one was more tastier.
As secundi, I ordered the filetto di maiale con asparagi while my partner had the petto d’anatra. Both were cooked perfect, the combination of the porc with bacon, aspargus and cheese was hearty with delicate flavour of the asparagus. My other table guest had a bistecca fiorentino, rare: again cooked perfectly as ordered (tasted as a reversed searing, very tender with a nice grilled outside and delicate flavour of smoke). Also, 3 different pizza’s came to the table. Thin crust, nice and quality toppings. From what I saw and heard; they were very tasty.
For dolce a variety of sweet dishes came to the table: tiramisu, which was rated to the top 5 we ever tasted, a cheesecake with fresh forest fruits that was built as a trifle (need we say more?) and a “biramisu”; like tiramisu but with different cookies and with beer. The crème was very fluffy and good on the flavours and structures.
Ending it all with some coffees, limoncello and on the way out I got ambushed for a grappa.
This is a place I will visit next time I am near.
