m	massimo ceci on Google ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ La Riserva Naturale di Monte Casoli è stata istituita nel 1999 dalla regione Lazio per la tutela di porzioni del territorio nel comune di Bomarzo, caratterizzati da molti pregi archeologici, paesaggistici e naturalistici. Si estende per 285 ettari circa, attraversata dal torrente Vezza e da altri corsi d'acqua minori, comprende boschi e prati di grande interesse vegetazionale e floristico. Il rilievo di Monte Casoli è considerato uno dei 36 geositi principali della provincia e la riserva è stata insignita del titolo di Destinazione Europea d'Eccellenza. The Monte Casoli Nature Reserve was established in 1999 by the Lazio region for the protection of portions of the territory in the municipality of Bomarzo, characterized by many archaeological, landscape and naturalistic qualities. It extends for approximately 285 hectares, crossed by the Vezza stream and other minor watercourses, and includes woods and meadows of great vegetational and floristic interest. The Monte Casoli relief is considered one of the 36 main geosites of the province and the reserve has been awarded the title of European Destination of Excellence.

A Monte Casoli non c'è solo l'insediamento rupestre: troverete i ruderi del vecchio castello, tombe ipogee, una serie di tombe a colombaio con ben 5 celle di fila, una via cava scavata nel tufo, decine di cisterne (a cui vi prego di fare attenzione) e tanti scorci panoramici con una visuale privilegiata sul borgo di Bomarzo. The place itself is extraordinary and still hides assets to be protected. In Monte Casoli there is not only the rock settlement: you will find the ruins of the old castle, underground tombs, a series of dovecote tombs with 5 cells in a row, a hollow road dug into the tuff, dozens of cisterns (to which please pay attention) and many panoramic views with a privileged view of the village of Bomarzo.

Una volta arrivati è poi molto difficile godersi l'esperienza in modo totale dato che la maggior parte delle indicazioni sono illeggibili. Unfortunately the reserve is kept in poor condition. Si consiglia per escursioni di difficoltà media, la suggestiva camminata si snoda in una piacevole pianura su di una collina. Appena arrivati si trova una chiesina nel bosco, poco prima un sentiero sulla sinistra porta alle tombe etrusche. Attenzione ai cinghiali che brulicano nelle foreste... Bomarzo, a charming village perched on the mountains, offers a breathtaking natural landscape thanks to the slopes of the Etruscan valleys, the wood is typical of the Viterbo areas. It is recommended for excursions of medium difficulty, the suggestive walk winds its way through a pleasant plain on a hill. As soon as you arrive you will find a small church in the woods, just before a path on the left leads to the Etruscan tombs. Beware of wild boars swarming in the forests ...

Purtroppo però è un po' complicato raggiungerlo in macchina perché la strada è estremamente tortuosa e ripida e ci sono pochissimi posti per parcheggiare, ma il problema più grande è la decadenza, i cartelli sono tutti rovinati e molti purtroppo addirittura illeggibili, è un vero peccato. The place has a lot of potential that if exploited would make it truly beautiful and of enormous value from the point of view of biodiversity. Unfortunately, however, it is a bit complicated to reach it by car because the road is extremely winding and steep and there are very few places to park, but the biggest problem is decadence, the signs are all ruined and unfortunately many are even illegible, it is a real shame .
C	Camillo Granchelli on Google ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Il posto in se è molto suggestivo e spettacolare, una natura ancora abbastanza selvaggia e quasi incontaminata, per buona parte, tra le basse montagne della Tuscia, che nascondono resti delle antiche civiltà etrusche e preromane. Gli enormi massi erratici, un tempo sede di culto e riti sacri, officiati dai sacerdoti, i druidi dei popoli antichi, oltre alle tombe nascoste tra la vegetazione degli antichi romani liberti e alle grotte, abitate nelle epoche antiche, che hanno dato al luogo il nome della piccola Matera della Tuscia. Sembra quasi, in alcuni passaggi, una ambientazione della foresta di Apocalypse now. Nella zona si conosce molto il giardino dei mostri di Bomarzo, molto più turistico e commerciale, ma qui siamo ad altri livelli. L'unico problema, se così vogliamo dirlo è che bisogna andare necessariamente accompagnati da persone che conoscono il luogo perché non è facile da raggiungere ed è tutto nascosto nella boscaglia, indicazioni quasi inesistenti ed è molto facile perdersi. A parte questo, oltre che fare sempre un po' di attenzione, la visita vale proprio la pena, il percorso è tranquillo, ciò che si può vedere è uno spettacolo unico che ripaga certamente quella piacevole fatica della camminata. It almost seems, in some passages, a setting of the Apocalypse now forest. In the area the garden of the monsters of Bomarzo is well known, much more touristic and commercial, but here we are at other levels. The only problem, if we want to say it so, is that you must necessarily go accompanied by people who know the place because it is not easy to reach and it is all hidden in the bush, indications almost non-existent and it is very easy to get lost. Apart from this, in addition to always paying a little attention, the visit is really worth it, the path is peaceful, what you can see is a unique spectacle that certainly repays that pleasant effort of the walk.

Do cinque stelle al luogo e darei 2 a chi lo gestisce l impressione è che non si voglia fare raggiungere il sito xhe è bellissimo. Non esiste nessuna segnalazione neanche su googlemaps. E non ci sono segnalazioni tranne un piccolo segnale sulla sinistra poco prima della chiesa .. noi abbiamo parcheggiato nel cortile della chiesa perché non l avevamo visto e abbiamo fatto più di 2km di cammino a destra e il sito era dalla parte opposta. The Etruscan rock settlements are beautiful. I give five stars to the place and I would give 2 to those who manage it, the impression is that you do not want to reach the site because it is beautiful. There is no report on googlemaps either. And there are no signs except a small sign on the left just before the church .. we parked in the church courtyard because we hadn't seen it and we walked more than 2km to the right and the site was on the opposite side.

Si raggiunge percorrendo una strada bianca per circa 4 km, oltrepassando l'ingresso per lo splendido Parco dei Mostri. Raggiunto il ponticello sul torrente Vezza, si procede avanti, lasciandolo sulla destra, e dopo poco si giunge presso un'area dove poter parcheggiare. The natural reserve of Monte Casoli near Bomarzo offers suggestive glimpses of the ancient rocky settlement, perhaps obtained from the even more ancient Etruscan necropolis, and of the marvelous Tuscia. It can be reached along a dirt road for about 4 km, passing the entrance to the splendid Parco dei Mostri. Reached the bridge over the Vezza stream, proceed ahead, leaving it on the right, and after a while you reach an area where you can park.
