E che questo ritaglio di terra in mezzo al mare sia una riserva naturale lascia uno spiraglio alla speranza; alla speranza che non venga abusato, col tempo, dalla superficialità, il disinteresse, la disattenzione e la disaffezione, questo piccolo diamante incastonato nel mare, a circa trecento metri dalla costa del comune di Isola delle Femmine. Questa area naturale sull'isolotto, fa parte della riserva naturale istituita nel 1997 dalla Regione Sicilia, che nel 1998 ha affidato l'isolotto alla Lipu, a ragion veduta visto che in questo luogo si possono trovare, dipende le stagioni, diverse specie di uccelli e tra questi specie di uccelli migratori, il poter ammirare un piccolo Martin Pescatore a vibrar a pelo d'acqua è già un buon motivo per rivivere l'esperienza ed apprezzare questo angolo della Sicilia tra costa ed Isolotto. Non di meno valore è la specie floristica e marina; i miei ricordi corrono indietro nel tempo quando i resti della torre non facevano presagire l'abbandono ed il deterioramento ma il fascino della leggenda e del passato storico, quando ancora era facile ed ordinario vedere una stella marina o un cavaluccio marino a pochi metri di profondità e in prossimità della costa. Sui fondali di questa zona sono stati anche trovati dei resti archeologici. Oggi il posto soffre un poco ma conserva tutto il suo fascino, ci si augura che oltre ad un tutela attiva ed ad azione concreta per contrastare ogni abuso ci sia la volontà di investire fondi per la conservazione e la cura.
