★ ★ ★ ★ ★ SETTEMBRE 2021. L'ingresso costa 4 euro o ridotto, necessario Green Pass. Per avere una guida è necessario richiederla alcuni giorni prima. Davanti c'è sempre abbastanza parcheggio, al quale si aggiunge un'altra zona di sosta a un minuto a piedi. Nel biglietto d'ingresso è incluso tutto ciò che al momento è presente all'interno del Castello: ingresso al museo archeologico, mostra su abitudini intorno al fuoco dei preistorici (molto ben fatta), mostra compagnia teatrale. Sono esclusi i camminamenti esterni, ancora inagibili dal terremoto del 2016.
Ci sono due bagni, di cui uno accessibile ai disabili al pian terreno.
Ci si sposta da un piano all'altro con scale oppure con l'ascensore.
Nel bookshop c'è un distributore automatico. Intorno non c'è nient'altro, il Castello è in mezzo al nulla (come ogni Castello che si rispetti).
Il museo archeologico è piccolo ma vale la pena fare un salto e anche ascoltare i video esplicativi.
In generale la visita al Castello può durare circa un'ora, il luogo è abbastanza piccolo.
In generale, è un bel posto immerso nel silenzio a due passi dal traffico della superstrada.
SEPTEMBER 2021. Admission costs 4 euros or reduced, Green Pass required. To get a guide you need to request it a few days in advance. In front of it there is always enough parking, to which is added another rest area a minute's walk away. The entrance ticket includes everything that is currently present inside the Castle: entrance to the archaeological museum, exhibition on habits around the fire of the prehistoric people (very well done), show theater company. External walkways, still uninhabitable since the 2016 earthquake, are excluded.
There are two bathrooms, one of which is wheelchair accessible on the ground floor.
You move from one floor to another by stairs or by elevator.
In the bookshop there is a vending machine. Around there is nothing else, the Castle is in the middle of nowhere (like any self-respecting Castle).
The archaeological museum is small but it is worth a visit and also to listen to the explanatory videos.
In general, the visit to the Castle can last about an hour, the place is quite small.
In general, it is a beautiful place surrounded by silence a stone's throw from the freeway traffic.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Il Castello della Rancia fu fatto costruire per scopi militari tra il 1353 e il 1357 dai Da Varano, duchi di Camerino, laddove già nel secolo XII sorgeva una grancia fortificata, fattoria e deposito di derrate alimentari dipendente dall'Abbazia cistercense di Chiaravalle di Fiastra. Il termine grancia, derivante dal francese grange, è restato poi nella denominazione della contrada e del castello. Quest'ultimo ha una struttura quadrangolare, è cinto da mura merlate e da tre torri difensive angolari. Il mastio, diviso in quattro piani, è alto più di 25 metri. Il piano seminterrato veniva utilizzato come prigione, come dimostrano i numerosi anelli in ferro infissi alle pareti.
The Castello della Rancia was built for military purposes between 1353 and 1357 by the Da Varano, dukes of Camerino, where already in the 12th century there was a fortified grancia, farm and food store dependent on the Cistercian Abbey of Chiaravalle di Fiastra. The term grancia, deriving from the French grange, then remained in the denomination of the district and the castle. The latter has a quadrangular structure, is surrounded by crenellated walls and three corner defensive towers. The keep, divided into four floors, is more than 25 meters high. The basement was used as a prison, as evidenced by the numerous iron rings fixed to the walls.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Ben conservato e vivo di iniziative, merita una visita sia dentro, anche se alcuni parti sono momentaneamente inagibili causa terremoto, che esternamente. Imperdibile la Rievocazione storica con 300 reenactors provenienti da diversi Stati (7/8 Maggio 2022). Rimane comunque facilissimo da raggiungere e con un bel parcheggio, peccato che non ci sia un'area sosta per Camper, ma la zona offre comunque diverse soluzioni in merito.
Well preserved and alive with initiatives, it is worth a visit both inside, even if some parts are temporarily uninhabitable due to an earthquake, and externally. Do not miss the historical reenactment with 300 reenactors from different states (7/8 May 2022). However, it remains very easy to reach and with a nice parking lot, it is a pity that there is no parking area for campers, but the area still offers various solutions in this regard.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Eight of us from the US arrived to tour the castle on a rainy day only to find out it was closed for the day. The attendant felt so sorry for us that he open the castle just for us. What a wonderful experience this was to tour the medieval tower and dungeon and museum without the normal crowds. the climb up the spiral stairs to the top of the tower was scary but lots of fun. The castle is well preserved and restored. the museum was well laid out and informative. A very positive experience. -keith Marengo from Novato California
