the Carlo Pisacane International School has been able to make a "problem" (the high number of girls and boys of foreign origin) a richer resource year after year. a positive model of integration. a continuous laboratory of good practices. a community of people (teachers, parents, all staff, friends and supporters) who "do", without chatter and rhetoric.

A bit of history. Carlo Pisacane, Duke of San Giovanni, was born in Naples, August 22, 1818, died in Sanza, July 2, 1857. He was an Italian revolutionary and patriot, of libertarian socialist ideology and federalist orientation with a Proudhonian imprint. He actively participated in the enterprise of the Roman Republic, together with Giuseppe Mazzini, Goffredo Mameli and Giuseppe Garibaldi, but is remembered for having led the attempted revolt in the Kingdom of the Two Sicilies, which began with the landing in Vibonati directed towards Sapri and which was repressed in blood at Sanza, where he died. The school was built between 1936 and 1941 on land purchased in 1933 by the Municipality of Rome from the Lignani-Ricci family. Two stages for construction. First with the reconstruction of a building structure that follows the area where the shelter for the sick was erected. This "open" structure had an entrance different from the current one (located at the intersection with Via Policastro) and aligned with the current stairwell that originates from the area occupied by the nursery school. In the second construction phase (from 1939 to 41) the building is "closed" by creating a double courtyard which also closes the previous one with the construction of a second gym. It is in this phase that the monumental corner entrance is erected. The school is named after Luigi Michelazzi (a fascist lieutenant who fell in East Africa). Only after the end of the Second World War will it be named after Carlo Pisacane. The school was built to complete the program of public services to be offered to the population of the so-called "contrada Marranella" which had seen an exponential growth since the beginning of the last century, also due to industrial settlements in the P.ta Maggiore area (Molini Pantanella) and Prenestina (Snia Viscosa), as well as due to its proximity to the San Lorenzo freight yard. Already in the General Variant of 1925, the Marranella area was indicated as an area to be rehabilitated because it was marshy, to accompany the growing demographic development with the construction of new buildings. Part of this project are also the construction of the hospitalization for the sick (the current Vannini Hospital) which will be managed by S.A.R.I. and the Cinema Impero. A real equipped axis that connects the Prenestino and Labicano areas along via di Acqua Bullicante, which just near the school should have crossed an axis of penetration (parallel to via Casilina) in the Roman countryside in the direction of the current via dei Gordians. Today the institute includes three primary schools (Iqbal Masih, R. Balzani and C. Pisacane), two of the kindergarten (Via Guattari and Romolo Balzani) and two of the lower secondary school (F. Baracca and C. Pisacane). The reference area is that of the V Municipality, District XIV, between the Centocelle, Ferraironi, Villa De Sanctis, Torpignattara districts. Finally Simonetta Salacone, in 43 years of work was known as the border principal. Simonetta Salacone died in 2010 she was the school director of the "Iqbal Masih" elementary school in Centocelle, leader in Italy of the protest against the abolition of full time. So that school far from the center became a pilot center in the 90s for the integration of immigrants, nomads and disadvantaged children, in a laboratory of total social inclusion.
