Prato Dello Strozzino

Prato dello Strozzino located between the villa and via di Monteoliveto, in front of via di Bellosguardo which climbs to the Limonaia and the Villa dell 'Ombrellino passing through the Belvedere and the tabernacle of the Grand Duke Leopoldo II, on the other side the Monte Rimorchi, the hill on the which stands the beautiful villa of Fioravanti Marchesi.

Not very popular, halfway between Bellosguardo and Villa Strozzi. If you walk these streets it appears at the right time for a short stop ....

Sober but with a spectacular view. Also easily accessible. Great cleanliness and easy parking.

Small lawn at the intersection of three roads to admire Florence from a particular angle. Inside a statue of recent invoice it was installed while on the opposite side of the road, we find a tabernacle.

Lovely place. Literally 1-2 km from the super noisy and full of people city, but then you get here where there is literally no one and there is a silence that only the countryside can offer. Really crazy, and I repeat, it is only 1-2 km from Piazza Tasso.

Originally called Prato del Santo Sepolcro, the name Prato dello Strozzino derives from the property of the Strozzis (a minor branch of the family, Camillo and his son Alessandro), who had bought in 1563 from the Antinori the Villa which would later be called Villa dello Strozzino (or Villa Le Lune). This Villa, in addition to the eastern garden towards Soffiano, already had a western garden with four large perimeter flower beds of boxwood and, beyond the road, a second lawn (the current Prato dello Strozzino). The road that led to the Church of San Vito and that separated the western garden from the Prato was called Via san Vito (today via Monte Oliveto) while the one that went down towards Soffiano was called Via Torta (now via San Vito). In the 1820s the Villa belonged to Margherita di Camillo Strozzi (born Lenzoni): the oriental garden will expand, annexing the lawn adjacent to today's road to Monte Oliveto. With the arrival in the Villa at the end of the nineteenth century of the painter John Roddam Spencer Stanhope (1829-1908), the Villa and the gardens underwent various transformations: in the oriental garden, the "one with a large gate between two pillars surmounted by terracotta statues open in axis with the lateral portal of the Villa and facing the Prato dello Strozzino, some statues and a series of five neo-fifteenth-century arches were inserted "(G. Trotta). The Prato is now public. In 2015 the sculptural work called Il sacrifice di Salvo D'Acquisto, by Arben Pazaj (Belarghes), was placed in Prato. The Prato dello Strozzino is bordered today by via Monte Oliveto, via di Bellosguardo and, on the panoramic side towards Villa Fioravanti, by the land owned by the Istituto Diocesano Sostensione Clero of Florence (IDSC), acquired after 1989, today leased to third parties.

An enchanting place in which, recently, a monument has been placed that commemorates the sacrifice of Salvo D’Acquisto.

Small lawn quite well kept but not very appreciated. There are 4 benches. However a small space to arrive and stop, it is still quiet and away from too much city noise. Reachable by car or on foot a few steps from Piazza Tasso towards Monte Olivo.
