San Verano invece sta qui, come a voler rendere esplicito il proprio potere religioso, e si affaccia sulla campagna della Valdera. Edificata tra la fine dell’XI e l’inizio del XII secolo, è dedicata a Verano di Cavaillon, vescovo provenzale del VI secolo e patrono del paese. Si dice che il santo vescovo, passando da Peccioli nel suo viaggio verso Roma, liberò il borgo dalla pestilenza. Un prospetto a cinque arcate cieche, una facciata in stile romanico-pisana e, all’interno, tele del pittore secentesco fiorentino Jacopo Vignali, una Madonna con Bambino e Santi di Neri di Bicci (1464) e il Museo di arte sacra, con le opere più significative del territorio, fra cui una Madonna col Bambino della prima metà del XII secolo di Enrico di Tedice e un dossale raffigurante San Nicola realizzato da Michele di Baldovino nella seconda metà del XIII secolo. Sotto la facciata della chiesa c’è l’arte contemporanea di Vittorio Corsini: centinaia di sguardi pecciolesi, fotografati e riprodotti su pannelli rettangolari di varie dimensioni. All’interno della Pieve, nella Cappella dell’assunta si trova il Museo di Arte Sacra. An anomalous position for a medieval parish church, usually built outside the town walls. San Verano, on the other hand, is here, as if to make its religious power explicit, and overlooks the Valdera countryside. Built between the end of the 11th and the beginning of the 12th century, it is dedicated to Verano di Cavaillon, a Provençal bishop of the 6th century and patron saint of the town. It is said that the holy bishop, passing through Peccioli on his journey to Rome, freed the village from the plague. A façade with five blind arches, a Pisan-Romanesque style facade and, inside, paintings by the seventeenth-century Florentine painter Jacopo Vignali, a Madonna with Child and Saints by Neri di Bicci (1464) and the Museum of sacred art, with the most significant works of the area, including a Madonna and Child from the first half of the 12th century by Enrico di Tedice and a dossal depicting San Nicola made by Michele di Baldovino in the second half of the 13th century. Under the façade of the church there is the contemporary art of Vittorio Corsini: hundreds of Pecciolo gazes, photographed and reproduced on rectangular panels of various sizes. Inside the parish church, in the Assunta Chapel there is the Museum of Sacred Art.
