In effetti dopo il XVI secolo la cittadina passo sotto l'egida medicea della quale la fontana a centro piazza ricorda ancora il nome.
Si narra che la fontana venne costruita con i denari dei soldati che avevano ricevuto note di biasimo.
I fondi improvvisamente finirono e invece della decorazione centrale venne apposte un cumulo di pietrame con zampillo
