Purtroppo oggi troppo degradata, ha conosciuto tempi migliori. Il monumento è molto bello e la sua vista dà inizio alla carrellata di bei monumenti che si possono ammirare percorrendo il vicino lungomare reggino. Penso che la piazza meriterebbe più attenzione e dovrebbe costituire spazio a sé, da vivere come comunità. La statua di Garibaldi è alta più di tre metri ed è realizzata in marmo bianco di Carrara, opera dell' artista calabrese Alessandro Monteleone.Si trova di fronte alla stazione ferroviaria e quindi, con i suoi parcheggi contribuisce alla fluidità degli utenti che devono partire o fanno parte dei lavoratori pendolari. A parte la pecca della mancanza di spazio in cui poter godere della piazza da parte dei pedoni, direi che è una delle bellezze della citta metropolitana di Reggio Calabria. La prima cosa che vede, appena esce dalla stazione, è una confusione di parcheggi, scavi archeologici abbandonati e il povero Garibaldi se potesse vedere, si vergognerebbe del luogo in cui è stato posto. La zona ha un grande potenziale. Avevano pensato di fare un parcheggio sotterraneo ma i ritrovi archeologici hanno fermato tutto. Io direi di lasciar perdere il parcheggio sotterraneo, anche perché ho paura che alla prima pioggia forte diventi una piscina, e creare una piazza simile a quella del duomo, moderna, semplice, senza fontane e valorizzando gli scavi archeologici e la statua di Garibaldi. Così chi arriva dalla stazione si meraviglierà di quello che vede, ma in positivo! It is certainly not a pretty sight for those arriving by train.
