L'artista Grandi lavorò al monumento dal 1883 al 1891 ma purtroppo non arrivo alla sua inaugarazione.
Sotto la base è scavato l'ossario dei caduti delle Cinque Giornate
Il monumento raffigura cinque donne che sono la personificazione di ciascuna delle giornate dei combattimenti, alla base dell’obelisco c'è un leone, rappressantivo del popolo che si batte contro gli Austriaci, vi è anche un’aquila simbolo dell’impero austro-ungarico. La piazza ricorda giornate tristi ma è molto bella e imponente nella sua rappresantazione!
Piazza Cinque Giornate is at a crossroads of streets. The monument is dedicated to the Milanese fallen of the historic Five Days of Milan. It was built by the sculptor Giuseppe Grandi between 1843 and -1894. Forces
People have overcome the last resistance of the Austrians on the fifth day of the uprising, which began on March 18, 1848.
The artist Grandi worked on the monument from 1883 to 1891 but unfortunately did not arrive at his inauguration.
Under the base the ossuary of the fallen of the Five Days is excavated
The monument depicts five women who are the personification of each of the days of the fighting, at the base of the obelisk there is a lion, representing the people fighting against the Austrians, there is also an eagle symbol of the Austro-Hungarian empire . The square is reminiscent of sad days but it is very beautiful and impressive in its representation!
