Church not very big but beautiful, perfectly in order with the ancient measures, side access for handicapped people, kind and friendly priest with everyone.

Le prime notizie che riguardano la Chiesa di Santa Maria Maggiore risalgono al 1308 quando Scordia era soltanto un Casale e per circa tre secoli rimase l' unica Chiesa Sacramentale della zona.
Nel 1628 con l' avvio dei lavori per la Chiesa di S. Rocco perse i diritti parrocchiali che furono traferiti alla nuova Matrice.
Gravemente danneggiata dal terremoto del 1693, venne presto ricostruita in un elegante stile Barocco e completata nel 1780 ma riebbe i diritti parrocchiali solo nel 1942.
L' interno è a navata unica con quattro altari laterali arricchiti da stucchi, pale e da un simulacro ligneo policromo di Santa Maria SS. Madre di Dio.

The first news concerning the Church of Santa Maria Maggiore dates back to 1308 when Scordia was only a Casale and for about three centuries it remained the only Sacramental Church in the area.
In 1628 with the start of works for the Church of S. Rocco it lost the parochial rights that were transferred to the new Matrix.
Seriously damaged by the earthquake of 1693, it was soon rebuilt in an elegant Baroque style and completed in 1780 but received parish rights only in 1942.
The interior has a single nave with four side altars enriched with stuccos, shovels and a polychrome wooden simulacrum of Santa Maria SS. Mother of God.
