★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Nelle antiche pergamene dell’Archivio di Stato di Lucca troviamo rammentata la piccola Chiesa di S. Maria del Castellare, esistente prima del 1260, come cappella dipendente dalla Pieve di S. Piero in Campo. Il piccolo edificio doveva sorgere probabilmente nelle vicinanze dell’attuale complesso parrocchiale.
Stemmi e lapidi, conservati e scoperti nella sala della Compagnia, c’informano che in sostituzione dell’antica chiesa, nel 1562, ne fu costruita una nuova nel luogo dove ora sorge la Cappella del Crocifisso.
Il papa Benedetto XIII nel Breve (documento) del 17 Marzo 1726 erigeva il Duomo e la Propositura di Pescia in Chiesa Cattedrale. Fra le parrocchie soggette al Vescovo di Pescia, in tale documento, è rammentata pure la Chiesa Rettoria di S. Maria Assunta del Castellare con proprio rettore.
Nel 1864 il piccolo tempio fu demolito in parte per dar luogo alla costruzione dell’attuale, di stile neoclassico su disegno del’Ingegner Carlo Cevelli di Lucca.
Il 5 Febbraio 1865 vi fu posta la prima pietra ed il tempio venne consacrato dal Mons. Giovanni Benini, Vescovo di Pescia dal 20 Novembre 1881.
Nella Chiesa del Castellare sono custodite le opere del pittore pesciatino Antonio Franchi (1683 – 1709) e della sua scuola.
Nel dopoguerra la chiesa che era stata danneggiata fu restaurata.
 In the ancient parchments of the State Archive of Lucca we find the small Church of S. Maria del Castellare, existing before 1260, as a chapel dependent on the Pieve di S. Piero in Campo. The small building probably stood near the present parish complex.
Coats of arms and tombstones, preserved and discovered in the company hall, inform us that in 1562, in place of the ancient church, a new church was built in the place where the Chapel of the Crucifix now stands.
Pope Benedict XIII in the Brief (document) of 17 March 1726 erected the Cathedral and the Propositura of Pescia in the Cathedral Church. Among the parishes subject to the Bishop of Pescia, in this document, the Rectory Church of S. Maria Assunta del Castellare is also recalled with its own rector.
In 1864 the small temple was partly demolished to give rise to the construction of the current, in a neoclassical style designed by the engineer Carlo Cevelli of Lucca.
On February 5, 1865, the first stone was laid and the temple was consecrated by Bishop Giovanni Benini, Bishop of Pescia from November 20, 1881.
In the Church of Castellare the works of the painter from Pescia Antonio Franchi (1683 - 1709) and his school are kept.
After the war the church that had been damaged was restored.
