★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Purtroppo non si hanno molte testimonianze del suddetto palazzo così come anche delle origini di Gemini. Si sa per certo che questi palazzi signorili vennero costruiti intorno al XVI secolo, dopo la fuga dei cittadini da Ugento che fu rasa al suolo per mano dei Saraceni. la popolazione trovò rifugio in Gemini che essendo un centro Bizantino era circondata da una cinta muraria quindi fortificata. Il palazzo Macrì dalle informazioni che ho è di proprietà privata, ho chiesto se si poteva visitare ma il proprietario ha limitato la mia visita all'atrio d'ingresso dove è possibile notare ancora frammenti di affreschi rinascimentali, ed allo scantinato scavato presumibilmente a mano in quanto composto da materiale tufaceo. Interessante i resti di conchiglie e piccoli animali marini incastonati nel tufo che lasciano intendere che in epoca preistorica tutta la zona era sommersa dal mare.
Unfortunately, there is not much evidence of the aforementioned building as well as of the origins of Gemini. It is known for certain that these noble palaces were built around the 16th century, after the escape of the citizens from Ugento which was razed to the ground by the hands of the Saracens. the population found refuge in Gemini which being a Byzantine center was surrounded by a fortified wall. The Macrì palace from the information I have is privately owned, I asked if it could be visited but the owner limited my visit to the entrance hall where you can still see fragments of Renaissance frescoes, and to the basement presumably hand-dug in as composed of tuff material. Interesting are the remains of shells and small marine animals set in the tuff which suggest that in prehistoric times the whole area was submerged by the sea.
