★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Un palazzo con varie stratificazioni nel centro storico di Palermo accanto Porta Nuova. Proprietà di Antonino Reggio, principe della Catena, divenne sede a partire dal 1811, durante il Regno Borbonico, del Luogotenente Generale del Regno, della R. Segreteria e dei Ministeri di Stato. Nel 1850 l'architetto Carlo Giachery fu incaricato di modificare il palazzo e di costruire un collegamento con l'adiacente Ospedale di S. Giacomo.
Giachery costruì una scala a chiocciola con una cupola sferica in ferro e vetro, di una eleganza e raffinatezza unica
Successivamente il palazzo ospitò la Prefettura, il Provvidetorato Scolastico.
Danneggiato dal terremoto del 1968 rimase abbandonato sino a quando fu acquistato dall' ARS e iniziati i lavori di sistemazione. In questi ultimi anni sono ripresi i lavori di restauro per farla diventare una sede delle raccolte bibliografiche ed emeroteca dell'Assemblea Siciliana.

A building with various layers in the historic center of Palermo next to Porta Nuova. Property of Antonino Reggio, prince of the Catena, it became the seat from 1811, during the Bourbon Kingdom, of the Lieutenant General of the Kingdom, of the Royal Secretariat and of the Ministries of State. In 1850 the architect Carlo Giachery was commissioned to modify the building and to build a connection with the adjacent Hospital of S. Giacomo.
Giachery built a spiral staircase with a spherical dome in iron and glass, of a unique elegance and refinement
Subsequently the building housed the Prefecture, the School Providerate.
Damaged by the 1968 earthquake, it remained abandoned until it was bought by the ARS and the refurbishment works began. In recent years, the restoration work has been resumed to make it a seat of the bibliographic collections and periodicals of the Sicilian Assembly.
Visited on the occasion of the FAI Autumn Days with the construction site open.
