Edificato nel1390, venne danneggiato da un incendio nel 1571.
Venne ricostruito, ma nel 1945, a seguito di un bombardamento, fu nuovamente distrutto.
Ricostruito, venne gravemente danneggiato dal sisma del 1976.
Venne riedificato usando le sue stesse pietre.
Sulle sue facciate, ci sono dipinti gli stemmi delle famiglie nobili della citta' e nel cortile ci sono pregevoli affreschi.
A ricordo della dominazione veneziana, sulla torretta spicca il Leone di San Marco.
