Prima di divenire inagibile, è stato la sede storica del Rettorato dell'Università degli Studi dell'Aquila, nonché dell'Economato e della Segreteria centrale. Prima della costruzione del primo polo universitario di Coppito (successivamente denominato "Coppito 1"), ultimato nel 1989, ha ospitato anche il Corso di Laurea in Fisica.
 Sixteenth-century building heavily damaged by the 2009 earthquake and currently being restored. Before becoming unusable, it was the historic seat of the Rectorate of the University of L'Aquila, as well as of the Bursar and the Central Secretariat. Before the construction of the first university center in Coppito (later called "Coppito 1"), completed in 1989, it also hosted the Degree Course in Physics.
