M	Mihai Lupu on Google ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ This was an unexpected and very pleasant experience. The staff showed us through the exhibition even though they did not have to. They are clearly very passionate about the history of the place and they manage to convey this passion to visitors like us. This history is a history of suffering, hard work, and modern slavery that fortunately no longer happens in Europe but still does elsewhere on the planet. It was a touching and informative visit that we will not forget.
Ν	Νεκτάριος on Google ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ It is the largest sulfur mine in the Nyssa area and today is also one of the most fascinating examples of industrial archeology on the island. The mine, which currently extends from the Rieti territories to those of Sommatino and Tallarita, dates back to 1730 when the Solfara Grande was opened, to which the Tallarita is annexed in 1823. The history of the mine is characterized by the alternation of innovations technological and disasters due to collapses or fires. But not only. The moment of maximum splendor of mining activities dates back to the 1920s, when 12% of the sulfur was produced from the bowels of the highlands for consumption worldwide. The presence of the 3,000 miners who worked incessantly underground meant that a small village annexed to the plants was born with a police station, a chapel, post offices and food shops and housing for employees and their families. Unfortunately in the 1950s American competition brought the production system to its knees, to which must be added the loss of many human lives caused by the landslide of the Scordia well following the explosion of grisou. The mine was closed in 1975.
D	Df Morvan on Google ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Very moving museum about the sulfur works. Friendly people proud to keep the memory of harsh times for the miners. Lovely museum, some of the old machinery (electrical plant) is still visible with the mine's building's. Well worth a stop. Thanks for keeping the museum open even if it was a bit late.
