Mi sentivo molto orgoglioso della rinascita del Salento di questi ultimi anni ma ora sto vedendo in TV le scioccanti immagini dei brutali pestaggi subiti dal povero Antonio Stano. g	giuseppe d'Elia on Google ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ La città di Manduria fu fondata dai Messapi e ancora oggi porta numerose testimonianze del suo antico passato, tra le quali le mura megalitiche, circondate dai resti del fossato che circondava la città, e la necropoli. Famosissimo è il Fonte Pliniano, posto nell'area archeologica, così chiamato perché prende il nome da Plinio il Vecchio, che descrisse il fonte nella sua Historia Naturalis. All'interno di una grande caverna naturale accessibile da una scala a due rampe, scavata anticamente nella roccia, c'è una vasca cinta da un muro rotondo, dove tuttora scorre l'acqua proveniente dalla stessa sorgente sotterranea che descrisse Plinio. La particolarità del fonte è data dal fatto che l'acqua mantiene sempre costante il suo livello, sia che l'acqua vi venga aggiunta, sia che vi venga tolta. Ciò avviene perché il pavimento della caverna è posto al livello della falda, e quindi l'acqua filtra attraverso la roccia e mantiene il livello inalterato. Il fonte pliniano fu usato dai Messapi come un luogo di culto, dedicato probabilmente ad una divinità delle acque. Il centro storico con i suoi vicoli, le piazze e le chiese è davvero bello. Particolarmente bella è la chiesa Matrice. Dal punto di vista gastronomico vi segnalo il famosissimo Primitivo di Manduria e i nodini di mozzarella. Particularly beautiful is the Mother Church. From a gastronomic point of view, I would like to point out the very famous Primitivo di Manduria and the mozzarella knots. Fascinating places
