A peaceful and tranquil setting to acknowledge the ultimate sacrifice made by the Polish people in not only the liberation of Italy but that of Europe.

Monte Cassino was a sad place for many in World War II. What the allies, and mainly the Polish, sacrificed by fighting there is eloquently featured when you visit. Its somber, but an important location. Respect should be shown while visiting.

This place reminds us that only by nations working together can we build a future based on peace among nations. The victory of the Polish army at Monte Cassino, which came at a great cost in human life, opened the road to Rome for the allied forces and ultimately bringing peace to Europe. The tragedy for the Poles was that their country remained occupied by the forces of the Soviet Union whilst the countries of Western Europe flourished as liberal democracies. That co-operation between nations is today reflected in the institutions of the European Union - may they serve the cause of the peace for many years to come.

My paternal grandfather fought here during the War. Going to see this place and say a prayer over the tombs of his friends was a highly emotional experience.

Honoring the fallen Polish soldiers from The Battle of Monte Cassino of WWII. Emotional experience to see the lives sacrificed to liberate Italy from Nazi domination. Museum tells the story. May we never forget our Polish brothers' sacrifices. They gave the ultimate gift of love.

The Monte Cassino cemetery is one of the most important Polish war cemeteries. The necropolis on the hill is the burial place of over a thousand Polish soldiers from the Second Corps of Anders' Army, who died from 11 to 19 May 1944 during the fighting for the nearby Montecassino Monastery.
