★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Il menhir (Pietra dritta o fitta) di Largo Croce, prende il nome dall'omonima piazzetta che lo ospita. Misura in altezza 300 cm ed ha una sezione di 45x40 cm. La data esatta della sua collocazione è incerta, si presume sia di epoca paleolitica così come i dolmen e le specchie, anche esse costruzioni di pietra. La particolarità dei menhir è che tutti hanno le facciate nella stessa direzione Nord-sud, ed in epoca pagana si presume fossero utilizzati come monoliti funerari. Solo in Salento se ne contano circa 125. Il menhir di Largo Croce durante il XVII secolo venne "cristianizzato". Fu aggiunto sulla sommità un capitello scolpito con insegne vescovili. da qui è conosciuto anche come menhir osanna.
The menhir (straight or dense stone) of Largo Croce, takes its name from the homonymous little square that hosts it. Measure in height 300 cm and has a section of 45x40 cm. The exact date of its placement is uncertain, it is assumed to be of the Paleolithic era as well as the dolmens and the mirrors, which are also stone constructions. The peculiarity of the menhirs is that they all have facades in the same north-south direction, and in pagan times they are presumed to have been used as funerary monoliths. Only in Salento there are about 125. The menhir of Largo Croce was "Christianized" during the 17th century. A capital carved with episcopal insignia was added on the top. from here it is also known as menhir osanna.
