Le origini di questo santuario sono legate ad un evento miracoloso accaduto nel XIII secolo. La tradizione vuole che una pastorella sordomuta si trovasse nella zona dove ora sorge il santuario per compiere le sue abituali mansioni, quando tra i rami di una quercia le apparve l'immagine della Vergine. Benché nessuno del villaggio assistette a tale evento, la fanciulla riacquistò la capacità di udire e di parlare. I fedeli vollero dunque onorare il luogo dell'apparizione costruendo un piccolo tempio intitolato alla Madonna, detta perciò "della Ghianda". L’odierna struttura risale all’600 opera dell’architetto Tebaldi. Da vedere l'opera più celebrata e rara della chiesa ovvero la quattrocentesca Vergine tra i rami di quercia, affresco del grande maestro tardogotico Michelino da Besozzo. Quest’opera è situata dietro all’altare in una cappella ancora della struttura originaria. The current church is the work of the architect Pellegrino Tibaldi. The sanctuary is located near Somma Lombardo, located outside the historic center, in Mezzana. The origins of this sanctuary are linked to a miraculous event that occurred in the thirteenth century. Tradition has it that a deaf-mute shepherdess was in the area where the sanctuary now stands to perform her usual duties, when the image of the Virgin appeared to her between the branches of an oak tree. Although no one from the village witnessed this event, the girl regained the ability to hear and speak. The faithful therefore wanted to honor the place of the apparition by building a small temple dedicated to the Madonna, therefore called "della Ghianda". The current structure dates back to the 17th century by the architect Tebaldi. To see the most celebrated and rare work of the church, namely the fifteenth-century Virgin among the oak branches, a fresco by the great late Gothic master Michelino da Besozzo. This work is located behind the altar in a chapel still of the original structure.
