★ ★ ★ ★ ★ La lapide e’ posta sul muro esterno del cimitero di Cerro. Don Giuseppe Della Chiesa, nato a Varese il 27 marzo 1813 da Giuseppe Federico , avvocato, fu parrocco a Cerro per molti anni (1845- 1883) e fino alla morte, il 22 maggio 1883. La carriera ecclesiastica iniziò nel 1837 quando egli giunse a Laveno come coadiutore. Da lì fu vicario a Porto nel 1844 e poi finalmente a Cerro. Inter alia, egli fece nascere una scuola della quale egli stesso fu professore. Della Chiesa ebbe come allievo Ernesto De Angeli ,di Laveno, che divenne un importantissimo industriale tessile e che fece diventare l’ Italia esportatrice di prodotti tessili ( prima essa era importatrice). Curioso e attento ai bisogno dei suoi parrocchiani, un giorno, viste le condizioni di salute di due suoi parrocchiani, Don Della Chiesa si recò fino ad Ispra dove in riva al lago vi era una sorgente di acqua solforosa. Dopo averla assaggiata ne portò ai due parrocchiani che migliorarono miracolosamente. Della Chiesa fu anche innovatore: tra i primi a sperimentare l’ innesto della vite americana sulla vita europea . In tutto il mondo vi era in quegli anni la distruzione della vite europea a causa della fillossera, un parassita.
 The tombstone is placed on the outer wall of the Cerro cemetery. Don Giuseppe Della Chiesa, born in Varese on 27 March 1813 by Giuseppe Federico, a lawyer, was parish priest in Cerro for many years (1845-1883) and until his death on 22 May 1883. His ecclesiastical career began in 1837 when he came to Laveno as a coadjutor. From there he was vicar in Porto in 1844 and then finally in Cerro. Inter alia, he gave birth to a school of which he himself was a professor. Of the Church he had Ernesto De Angeli, from Laveno, as a pupil, who became a very important textile industrialist and who made Italy an exporter of textile products (before it was an importer). Curious and attentive to the needs of his parishioners, one day, given the health conditions of two of his parishioners, Don Della Chiesa went to Ispra where there was a spring of sulphurous water on the lakeside. After tasting it, he brought it to the two parishioners who miraculously improved. Della Chiesa was also an innovator: among the first to experiment with the grafting of the American vine into European life. All over the world there was in those years the destruction of the European vine due to the phylloxera, a parasite.
