★ ★ ★ ★ ★ È un luogo della memoria per molti cilentani. Chiesa di campagna molto antica nel comune di Laureana Cilento, a confine col comune di Torchiara. Difficilmente si trova aperta. Si svolge in questo luogo una festa a primavera inoltrata.
It is a place of memory for many Cilentans. Very old country church in the town of Laureana Cilento, bordering the town of Torchiara. It is hardly open. A party in late spring takes place in this place.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ According to the tradition the cult arose from the miraculous nature of the spring that flows there and on which the church was built.
The spring arose when three virgins were stoned there. In the presbytery there is a marble well dated 1652 from which the miraculous water is drawn and has walls frescoed in 1647 depicting the Madonna and Child, with St. Joseph and St. Lucia on either side.
The ceiling is coffered. It is thought that the building was built several times and rebuilt on a preexisting place of Marian devotion probably in the VIIth century.
The cult of the Madonna dell'Acquasanta is still very felt both in Laureana and throughout Cilento, the Feast of the Madonna dell'Acquasanta (Our Lady of holy water) is celebrated on Tuesday after Pentecost. Here in the days of the celebration of the Virgin Mary, the faithful draw water from the source located inside the church to drink it and bring it to the sick.
The Sanctuary of the Madonna dell'Acquasanta is easily reachable from the Agropoli - Vallo della Lucania highway with the exit to Agropoli Sud. Continuing for about 4 km on the SS. Santa Maria di Castellabate turn left near the junction for Laureana where you can follow the appropriate signs.
