For 12 years I have had membership at Hanbury Gardens and love the place. Last Sunday I was refused entry to the gardens (which as usual were completely empty), as I do not have, and will never have the ridiculous green pass.
The university management of the gardens should be ashamed of themselves. There is no sensible reason why this enormous outdoor garden should be closed to people without a green pass.
Educational institutions should be leading the way and standing up to the oppressive system the corrupt, inept and unelected Italian government are trying impose on citizens.
What is the world coming too if we cannot walk around a garden without a pass.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Amazing place. There's a bus number 1 from Ventimille to get there , because there's no parking around. Also it's about 5 km walk from Mentone ( if you are into walking). And there's a bus from the border in Mentone

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Beautiful testatement to the English love of gardens. Designed as a nature reserve and has now become one of the World's most important horticultural sites. A real treat. Get the bus up from Ventigmilia 3 euros return. But you need 4 hours to see it, if you are a bit challenged re steps etc. you can pre book an electric buggy. Spot the war damaged trees!

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ We visited on the 7th of March 2018, the weather was cool but sunny, being so early in the year we had no great expectations. However we were stunned by the beauty of the place, there was very little in flower, though the variety and types of plants and trees was enough to keep us amazed throughout our visit. Every corner turned produced a new vista, which kept the camera clicking. The park is on the side of a steep hill, which drops down to the sea, but following the prescribed route was never difficult. Alternative routes or guides were available for disabled and the blind. The staff were very friendly, helpful and patient with my bad Italian. The cafe at the very bottom of the hill by the sea sold coffee, ice-cream, filled baguettes and cold drinks. A limited selection though adequate selection.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Fantastic place with a wide collection of exotic and local plants, which has been collected by Hanbury family as first. The ideal place to make the nice stroll through it during the summer morning. If you forgot the bottle of water, in the bookshop is possible to buy drinks to refresh yourself and some nice souvenirs. Highly recommended to visit. Unfortunately, dogs are not allowed and the parking area is not big enough, so it's better to come early morning to get the spot.
