Non basta mettere due cartelli, i sentieri vanno mantenuti regolarmente, a maggior ragione in un parco nazionale! Characteristic place in a beautiful limestone valley. Unfortunately the path is invaded by brambles. It is not enough to put two signs, the paths must be maintained regularly, even more so in a national park!

Si accede facilmente con un percorso di circa 40 minuti della strada provinciale che collega Lettomanoppello a Passo Lanciano... nel vallone che si è creato scorre un rigagnolo abbondante di acqua che ha scavato mella roccia il suo percorso... It is a place to visit.There are two large cavities in the rock and inside the cavity set at a height of about 4/5 meters is the statue of the saint, at the bottom there is the stone altar. Abbiamo trovato subito l’inizio del sentiero e dove lasciare l’auto (più avanti dove c'è un'area pic-nic); il sentiero è ben segnato, solitario (abbiamo incontrato solo due ragazzi che salivano mentre noi scendevamo); essendo poco frequentato c’è un po’ di vegetazione (consigliati i pantaloni lunghi) ma si percorre molto bene; insetti, quasi nessuno. Il sentiero scende fino a costeggiare un rigagnolo in fondo al vallone, il tutto in mezzo ad una abbondante vegetazione. La grotta, con la copia della statua dell’Arcangelo Michele, è in alto, sul costone di roccia. Per salire abbiamo fatto un sentiero (segnato) ripido e molto malmesso. Dà una strana sensazione trovarsi in un luogo così: selvaggio ma sacro, solitario, lontani da tutto e da tutti, con tanta natura intorno. Poi abbiamo visto che dalla parte opposta c’è un altro sentiero che scende dalla grotta al sentiero principale, poco ripido e ben tenuto, con tanto di indicazione all’inizio(!) Se avessimo proseguito altri 50 metri sul sentiero principale lo avremmo visto e non avremmo fatto tutta quella fatica per salire. Per scendere ovviamente prendiamo quello e, arrivati al sentiero principale, … veniamo “assaliti” da un nugolo di insetti volanti. Quindi ci sono! Tafani? così è scritto su internet, ma noi non siamo certo stati a cercare di classificarli. Prendiamo quasi di corsa la via del ritorno fino a che gli insetti spariscono e poi risaliamo il sentiero fino all’auto. We stayed on August 17th. We immediately found the beginning of the path and where to leave the car (further on where there is a picnic area); the path is well marked, lonely (we only met two boys who went up while we went down); as it is not very popular there is a bit of vegetation (long trousers recommended) but it can be traveled very well; insects, almost none. The path descends until it skirts a rivulet at the bottom of the valley, all in the midst of abundant vegetation. The cave, with the copy of the statue of the Archangel Michael, is high up on the ridge of rock. To go up we took a (marked) steep and very rundown path. It gives a strange feeling to be in such a place: wild but sacred, lonely, far from everything and everyone, with so much nature around. Then we saw that on the opposite side there is another path that descends from the cave to the main path, not very steep and well kept, with a lot of indication at the beginning (!) If we had continued another 50 meters on the main path we would have seen it and we would not have made all that effort to climb. To go down, of course, we take that one and, once we arrive at the main path, ... we are “attacked” by a swarm of flying insects. So there they are! Gadflies? so it is written on the internet, but we have certainly not been trying to classify them. We almost run the way back until the insects disappear and then we go up the path to the car.
