Lo scopo era di fermare un eventuale invasione nel punto più stretto della valle ("stretta dei tre ponti"). Faceva parte di un più vasto sistema difensivo chiamato "fortezza cadore-maè". Con la disfatta di caporetto, per evitare l'aggiramento, la zona è stata abbandonata dalle truppe italiane. Il forte é stato poi fatto saltare dagli austro-ungarici durante la loro ritirata nel novembre 1918. Dalle rovine del forte c'è un panorama notevole sulle Dolomiti di Sesto. Complex of fortifications built before the Great War, culminating in a fort with 4 cannons on armored domes. The aim was to stop a possible invasion in the narrowest point of the valley ("narrow of the three bridges"). It was part of a larger defensive system called the "cadore-maè fortress". With the defeat of caporetto, to avoid the circumvention, the area was abandoned by the Italian troops. The fort was then blown up by the Austro-Hungarians during their retreat in November 1918. From the ruins of the fort there is a remarkable view of the Sesto Dolomites.
D	David Da Deppo on Google ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Bellissimo posto poco conosciuto facilmente raggiungibile da Lozzo di Cadore, è un forte della prima guerra mondiale, ci sono le grandi caserme, l'arrivo della teleferica, le gallerie e le postazioni costruite dai soldati. Arrivati in cima si può ammirare lo splendido panorama e i resti della batteria bombardata dagli austriaci. Beautiful little-known place easily reachable from Lozzo di Cadore, it is a fort of the First World War, there are large barracks, the arrival of the cableway, tunnels and positions built by soldiers. Once at the top you can admire the splendid panorama and the remains of the battery bombed by the Austrians.

The way up here is demanding, but always worthwhile. It's a shame that the entire complex has already fallen into disrepair. But that's part of the story too.
