The fountain is called of the Dragons because it was given to the population at the end of the 16th century by Pope Gregory XIII, born Ugo Boncompagni who had a winged dragon on the family crest

Venne realizzata nel 1585 durante il pontificato di Papa Gregorio XIII.
Composta da un'unica grande vasca circolare su cui sono visibili gli stemmi di due cardinali, quelli di Civita Castellana e di papa Gregorio XIII. In città la fontana è nota perché nelle vicinanze venivano eseguite le condanne a morte.
The Fountain of the Dragons in Piazza Matteotti, stands right in front of the Palazzo del Comune.
It was built in 1585 during the pontificate of Pope Gregory XIII.
Composed of a single large circular basin on which the coats of arms of two cardinals are visible, those of Civita Castellana and of Pope Gregory XIII. In the city, the fountain is known for carrying out death sentences nearby.
