EGO - the European Gravitational Observatory - is located in the countryside near Pisa in the Commune of Cascina. In order to ensure the long term scientific exploitation of the VIRGO interferometric antenna for gravitational waves detection as well as to foster European collaboration in this upcoming field, the VIRGO funding institututions (CNRS for France and INFN for Italy) have created a consortium called EGO (European Gravitational Observatory).

Gravitational wave observatory. The frontier of science happens here (and in the partner observatories in Louisiana and Washington State). Yours in English and Italian can be reserved, in parts of the year when no science data run takes place.

Great experience even during the coronacrisis when we were able to attend a virtual visit with great explanation and enthusiastic scientists!

A real piece of work. Delighted to be there, to be a part of human history. Proud to be a physics student and an inspiration because to prove a theory which is 100 years old. That's insane.

Wild things they do in this experiment. We went with a high-school physics class. Excellent guide tour, where we first had a seminar explaining about the gravitational waves and their sources. Afterwards we saw much more than I had hoped for, including going inside one of the arms, seeing the version 1 mirror, and the hall with the towers for the laseroprics, beamsplitter etc.
