Scoprirebbe che non di tutti i muri si debba diffidare. Oltre ad accogliere e proteggere, con quel loro caldo intonaco grigio-rosso a pozzolana, alcuni respirano, suggeriscono, stimolano, sorprendono... Questo è uno di quei tanti reconditi angoli di Roma - di quei παράδεισοι - che ne fanno incredibilmente la prima capitale verde d’Europa. In più l’attenzione sacrale con cui vengono mantenuti l’articolato complesso edilizio ed architettonico e il vasto giardino impreziosito da diffusi reperti archeologici, conferma il disappunto di dover rilevare la distanza che intercorra per lo più tra l’impegno conservativo delle istituzioni religiose e delle laiche (cfr. l'aderente Villa Mattei Celimontana). E - credere o non credere - va riconosciuto che il sopravvivere nel cuore di Roma di tanta bellezza si debba a uno Stato che – fino a 159 anni fa e di là dagli aspetti confessionali – l’ha saputa coltivare, promuovere e recuperare ben oltre l’orizzonte del suo tempo… e del nostro.
