S	Salvatore Rignanese on Google ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Il convento di Monte S. Angelo fu fondato nel 1595 durante il provincialato del p. Michele da Manfredonia. La croce fu piantata il 10 settembre 1595. La prima pietra fu benedetta in una cappella intitolata a s. Nicola di Bari. Il sito scelto era vicino al Santuario di s. Michele. Era l’unico convento fondato nell’abitato. La chiesa fu consacrata il 31 luglio 1678 e dedicata a s. Nicola di Bari. Con la soppressione del 1811, il convento di Monte S. Angelo non venne chiuso per l’intervento energico del sindaco, secondo il quale, dato che il convento era situato nell’abitato, i frati “non solamente veggonsi continuamente applicati agli affari spirituali ma ben’anche all’educazione ed istruzione della gioventù nelle scienze al che non si potrebbe certamente supplire né dallo stesso numero degli ecclesiastici né da altri individui”. Ci fu anche precedentemente l’intervento favorevole del vicario capitolare Domenico Valente, indirizzato allo stesso G. Charron. Il convento continuò il suo attivo apostolato. I frati da 6 passarono a 16. Nel 1867 fu chiuso definitivamente, in forza delle leggi eversive del governo italiano. In seguito fu ospedale per un certo numero di anni. L’orto divenne villa comunale.
