L'istituto affonda le proprie radici nel lontano 4 novembre 1951. Nel 1996 l'Istituto Musicale Pareggiato Vincenzo Bellini attiva nuovi corsi. Nel 2000 il "Bellini" subì una profonda evoluzione. Oggi l'istituto offre la possibilità di iscriversi a tutti i corsi accademici di primo e secondo livello e anche ai Corsi di Formazione di Base (pre-accademici). The Higher Institute of Musical Studies Vincenzo Bellini of Catania is today an institution of High Music Education. The institute has its roots as far back as 4 November 1951. In 1996 the Vincenzo Bellini Pareggiato Musical Institute activated new courses. In 2000 the "Bellini" underwent a profound evolution. Today the institute offers the possibility of enrolling in all first and second level academic courses and also in Basic Training Courses (pre-academic).

Le aule sono quasi tutte chiuse e l'arte al suo interno non è valorizzata, ci sono voci in giro che parlano di una possibile chiusura, lo spero in quanto è un luogo vuoto. Ci sono problemi ai servizi igienici, mancanza di servizi di segreteria online, in un mondo che punta al digitale, qui ancora si stampano gli avvisi e si pubnlicano in bacheca mentre in un falso sito si pubblicano giorni e giorni dopo. Ce ne vorrà di tempo per fare la rivoluzione in questo posto, e speriamo bene, perchè la musica come l'arte in generale è una tra le cose belle della vita che ancora oggi possono renderci umani.
