Nato nel 1978, in seguito alle prime proposte di legge (1950) per istituirlo, il Comune autonomo vede già nel 1318 un primo riconoscimento territoriale, quando Re Roberto d’Angiò delimitava il Feudo di Cancelleria stabilendo come termine di confine la Chiesa di Santa Maria la Carità. Nel piazzale dove è presente oggi la Casa Comunale si trovano anche la sede dei Vigili urbani, l'ASL ed un parco giochi per i bambini con due scivoli, diverse altalene e percorsi motori.
The Municipality of Santa Maria la Carità is located in Piazza S.S. John Paul II. Born in 1978, following the first legislative proposals (1950) to establish it, the autonomous municipality already saw a first territorial recognition in 1318, when King Robert of Anjou delimited the Fief of Chancellery establishing the Church of Santa Maria as a boundary term the charity. In the square where the Municipal House is today there are also the headquarters of the traffic police, the ASL and a playground for children with two slides, several swings and motor paths.
