Nonostante i forti terremoti del 1315, del 1461, del 1703 e del 2009, all'Aquila è ancora presente un ampio patrimonio storico che mostra uno strato medievale testimoniato soprattutto dalla cinta muraria, uno rinascimentale che caratterizza numerosi palazzi e chiese e infine uno barocco e neoclassico dovuto alle ricostruzioni post sisma settecentesche. Nonostante tutti i terremoti è una città che, insieme ai suoi abitanti, fortunatamente è sempre riuscita a rinascere.
L'Aquila is an Italian town that is the capital of the province of the same name and of the Abruzzo region. It is located in the center of the Aquila basin, along the Aterno river and on the slopes of the Gran Sasso. Despite the strong earthquakes of 1315, 1461, 1703 and 2009, there is still a large historical heritage in L'Aquila that shows a medieval layer, testified above all by the city walls, a Renaissance one that characterizes numerous palaces and churches and finally a Baroque and neoclassical due to the eighteenth-century post-earthquake reconstructions. Despite all the earthquakes it is a city that, together with its inhabitants, has fortunately always managed to be reborn.
