★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Proseguendo il tour nei "borghi dipinti" del varesotto, ci siamo recati a Dumenza, in particolare nella frazione di Runo, un piccolo agglomerato di case, con una piccola piazza che ospita il monumento ai caduti ed un dedalo di stradine antiche e strette. Entrando nel borgo ci accolgono subito i primi affreschi che, a differenza di quelli ad Arcumeggia o Boarezzo, non sono dipinti sui muri ma su un'apposita base appoggiata alle pareti. Sono parecchi e tutti molto belli, con colori molto tenui e per la maggior parte raffigurano paesaggi, vita contadina, ma c'è anche un piccolo tocco surrealista! Arrivando in una minuscola piazzetta è visibile una lapide ricordo di Raffaele Casnedi (1822-1892) nativo di Runo, insegnante all'accademia di Brera ed artista molto apprezzato del suo tempo. Solo per fare un esempio, sono di Casnedi le figure di angeli, dipinti sulla cupola dell'Oratorio Sommariva a Tremezzo, nel complesso museale di Villa Carlotta. È stato veramente piacevole passeggiare per le stradine tranquille ed ammirare i bei dipinti, alcuni da scoprire nei punti più insoliti, inoltre sono davvero ben conservati. Consigliamo convintamente la visita! Per i buongustai pare che il ristorante Smeraldo faccia un ottimo risotto.
Continuing the tour in the "painted villages" of the Varese area, we went to Dumenza, in particular in the hamlet of Runo, a small cluster of houses, with a small square that houses the war memorial and a maze of ancient and narrow streets. Entering the village we are immediately welcomed by the first frescoes which, unlike those in Arcumeggia or Boarezzo, are not painted on the walls but on a special base resting on the walls. They are many and all very beautiful, with very light colors and for the most part they depict landscapes, peasant life, but there is also a small surrealist touch! Arriving in a tiny square you can see a memorial plaque by Raffaele Casnedi (1822-1892), a native of Runo, a teacher at the Brera academy and a very appreciated artist of his time. Just to give an example, the figures of angels by Casnedi are painted on the dome of the Oratory Sommariva in Tremezzo, in the museum complex of Villa Carlotta. It was really nice to walk through the quiet streets and admire the beautiful paintings, some to be discovered in the most unusual spots, and they are really well preserved. We strongly recommend the visit! For gourmets it seems that the Smeraldo restaurant does an excellent risotto.
