★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Castelfranco di Sotto nasce attorno all'XI secolo come unione di quattro piccoli villaggi: San Bartolomeo a Paterno, San Michele in Carpugnana, San Piero a Vigesimo e San Martino in Catiana. Questi, descritti dal canonico Giovanni Franceschini nelle sue cronache del 1789, erano in antichità quattro villaggi che caratterizzavano il territorio della cittadina prima della costruzione del castello. I colori vennero estratti a sorte.
Nel 1925 Castelfranco entra nella Provincia di Pisa, lasciando quella di Firenze. Negli anni 1960 lo storico muro che circondava il centro storico venne abbattuto. Dagli anni settanta il comune ha avuto una crescita economica e industriale anche grazie all'ampliamento (specie negli anni 1990) della zona industriale.
Castelfranco di Sotto was born around the 11th century as a union of four small villages: San Bartolomeo in Paterno, San Michele in Carpugnana, San Piero a Vigesimo and San Martino in Catiana. These, described by canon Giovanni Franceschini in his chronicles of 1789, were in ancient times four villages that characterized the territory of the town before the construction of the castle. The colors were drawn by lot.
In 1925 Castelfranco enters the Province of Pisa, leaving that of Florence. In the 1960s the historic wall that surrounded the historic center was demolished. Since the seventies the municipality has had an economic and industrial growth also thanks to the expansion (especially in the 1990s) of the industrial area.
